First steps from a hovel to a play paradise

Finally we had found what we were looking for. We had found rooms for a studio. In the middle of Berlin, in Tempelhof – Remise in the 2nd backyard – two floors with its own garden – 3-fold soundproofed…. and then still with official brothel permit.
The condition of the building inspired our fantasies, but promised a lot of work.
With great enthusiasm we started to renovate. WE, that is Emma Steel, Velvet Steel and Johanna Weber.
Why do we write about renovating? Correctly we should say that it is about demolition and new construction :-)
By now we all know that core renovation is governed by completely different rules than apartment renovation. Everything takes forever, and you often have the feeling for days that despite 10 hours of work, you haven’t accomplished anything.

At the beginning, however, it went really quickly.
Yes, tearing out the ceiling and knocking down the tiles in the bathroom is a breeze and feels super good. You really get something done in the evening. Unfortunately, this phase is now finished. Now we’re working on the wooden floor and replacing the rotten boards. This is taking a long time. Two large walls are being cleared of plaster so that you can see the wonderful old brickwork. Dusty without end and one hardly makes progress. Grinding off the concrete in the first floor rooms and juggling with the leveling compound, also stretched for days. But it looks great now. I’m curious to see how it will look once the primer is on.

Thankfully, we have a lot of friends and supporters who come to help for a few hours or even several days. Even those who have two left hands want to contribute. Somehow, everyone is happy with us that we have finally made it, and it is now our dream come true.

It’s funny that the helpers, who otherwise have few physical challenges in their everyday lives, are enthusiastic about working on our construction site. The desk workers and puff-sitting colleagues in particular loved to handle the heavy equipment. It seems to be something like a primal need. The desire to break things. You don’t usually do that, and here’s the opportunity. It’s also great fun. In the evening, you’re so wonderfully tired and really hungry. And everything tastes so wonderful at our picnic table in the front yard of our construction site.

How good that Emma has prevailed to tear out the blankets in almost all the rooms. On the top floor, a wonderful slanted roof came into view…. a spatial effect without equal.
The fact that we wanted two bathrooms didn’t need much discussion. The tiles are out. There were historically interesting four layers on top of each other there. Great work by Velvet, who handled the massive hammer drill as a matter of course. Supported by the attractive colleague from a brothel in Wilmersdorf with the wheelbarrow and colleague Emily, who had put on her work stilettos especially.

Our maid gymnastics on the banister to pluck the wallpaper. When we objected that we were a little worried about her safety, we were only told that the wallpaper would not move from the wall by itself….. Yes, cheeky Lotte is cheeky.

Formerly purple dream, today the kitchen

At the very beginning, however, there was still another job to do. We were allowed to clear out all the old furniture. Our future domina studio was previously a real picture book whorehouse. Initially, we thought yes, for the one or the other lover object a little money to get was, but was then not quite so….
But for gift then suddenly everything went away. Even 10-year-old whorehouse mattresses, the knickknacks figurines and the artificial rose bushes.
