Risque Business – Or How BDSM Can Be Lighthearted and Fun
Risque Business is a korean Netflix Show featuring the two hosts Shin Dong-youp and Sung Si-kyung visiting countries to explore the “sexy” industries and oddities.
After travelling to Japan and Taiwan they visited Germany and the Netherlands. Diving into kinky Berlin, they of course wanted to visit Studio LUX as well.
As BDSM professionals, we consider very carefully who we cooperate with in terms of mainstream media. When the producers contacted me, I was open for a Zoom meeting to check out their intentions and I also needed to watch a few episodes that had already been shown. The verdict went quite well in favor of cooperation, but the usual restraints were necessary. In my view BDSM can be shown as a fun, entertaining and challenging activity, but never will the people engaging in it be downplayed or ridiculed.
Of course the main topic of the show is comedy. Both the hosts are famous comedians, singers and TV personalities in the South Korean media landscape and the show is quite light hearted.
This is the background. Now let me tell you about the filming process.
The producers invited Chloe Savage (a colleague from Düsseldorf), our own Mistress Bella Lugosi and me, Lady Velvet Steel for the production day at Studio LUX.
If you haven’t seen the episode yet, please do so. It is available on Netflix right now and can be streamed with subtitles.
The day of filming was fun and challenging alike. When the crew arrived, us three ladies were already in the full swing of preparations. By the way, here you can find my Make Up Artist: Layana – I can only praise her in the highest regard. Book her or at least give her a follow.
All of us where quite surprised when the Risqué Business production crew came in – a never ending stream of people. I didn’t count them but at some point I am sure we had at least 60 different people in the house.
Personally I love to see how others perceive LUX and utilize Light and imagination to create atmosphere. You can easily experience this yourself when you check out the different pictures taken at LUX. You can see this here in our team gallery.
Studio Modak, the production company, brought some very skilled light technicians to display our rooms for their scenes. If you are a avid follower of LUX, you will also see that we adapted a few of their brilliant suggestions and incorporated them into our room design.
The day of the shoot was long, and as such things usually are, very labor intensive. A big shout out and thank you also to the producers who were on location. They were always polite and responsive.
The end product is as expected: a fun depiction of BDSM, that plays mainly on cliches about our passion without being mean or disrespectful. The quite vanilla hosts are mostly in awe about their experience and even got to experiment a little of their own.
It was challenging of course, as a lot of prep talks behind the scenes needed to happen to let the crew know what is acceptable and what not. You can see aspects of this in the final episode, especially when Bella emphasizes in her scene the consent of the both hosts.
Of course this is by no means a deep dive into BDSM, sexwork or the depths of our daily work. But it is a funny and delightful skit on two people exploring, marvelling and giggling about a whole new world of sexual desire.
If you are new to the world of BDSM and also to Studio LUX, let me give you a little introduction.
Studio LUX opened in 2015 and is located in Berlin Germany. We have eight rooms in two different locations. BDSM Studio LUX is a brothel that is specialized in the world of BDSM. This is a sexual field that engages in strictly consensual play around pain, power dynamics, roleplay, sensations, restrictions and much more.
At the studio you will find self-employed and independent sex workers specializing in BDSM practices who use the rooms to engage with their clients. We offer industry leading working conditions for our team members, because I strongly believe in sex workers rights. A work place like the studio needs to be safe, fair and supportive. Period.
Studio LUX values sharing of knowledge. That’s why we offer a vast workshop program for the curious mind. The topics range from BDSM, erotic, to private and professional explorations. You can check out our program here: www.smkurse.de. Our facilitators are skilled colleagues offering their experience for everyone to learn and grow.
As a place of sexwork, I wanted to open this space for the public to experience. Everyone should be able to see and experience for themselves who we are and what we do. You can also book the rooms for your private play with your play partners or visit our Life Drawing event.
If you are based to far away from Berlin or even Germany, you can still check out our way of working. Simply join us on https://www.luxurioussins.com and enjoy the content we make in our studio. It is almost as if you would be here with us.
Anyhow – here is the trailer for you to enjoy:
